Volunteer Information
Required Volunteer Hours
Most youth sports only need one or two referees or officials to run a game, but our summer swim meets can have 250+ swimmers competing at each meet, and these meets require around 30 parents from each team to be timers, officials, runners, etc. Most volunteer roles can be filled with no prior swim experience, and there are also non-meet activities (socials, pancake breakfast, bagel breakfast, potlucks etc.) where we need volunteers. To make sure the volunteer load is shared, each family on the swim team has a volunteer obligation. Volunteer signups are available on Swimtopia within our schedule. Families who do not meet the 18 point obligation are charged a volunteer fee at the end of the season.
This year the Swim Team Volunteer Fee is $175 per family. A charge on your card will be pre-approved but not charged at registration. We will process the charge at the end of the season if the volunteer obligation is not met. Mini Cobias are exempt from the 18 point volunteer obligation.
Note: This policy is not intended to be punitive or to prevent children from joining the Cottontail Cobias Swim team. If you have extenuating family circumstances that impact your volunteering, please talk with your Team Rep.
Swim Team Policy:
- Each swim team family needs to volunteer 18 points/hours. Swim meet volunteer positions receive between 1-4 points/hours per meet, depending on the position. Most non-meet jobs receive 1-2 points.
- Volunteer opportunities will be posted before meets throughout the season. Families may earn multiple credits at a single event by having multiple family members volunteer.
- Volunteer credits can also be earned by filling non-meet roles throughout the season, such as planning/running social events, volunteering at pancake breakfasts, volunteering at the midnight party, etc.
- There are no partial fee refunds.
- The minimum credit requirement is a floor and not a ceiling! If a job needs to be filled and you’re available, please help out even if you’ve met your obligation. Working a meet is often more fun than just being a spectator!
